How do you fix loose skin after Ozempic?

It depends on how much extra skin there is and where it is. Mild looseness in skin that still has decent quality often responds to radiofrequency tightening, like Morpheus8 or BodyTite. Skin that folds or hangs, especially on the lower belly or upper arms, usually needs to be surgically removed with a tummy tuck or an arm lift. Either way, wait until your weight has been stable for several months.
Why GLP-1 weight loss leaves loose skin
Skin stretches to fit the body it covers. After a large weight loss, there’s simply more skin than the new frame needs. How much it bounces back depends on your age, sun damage, past pregnancies, smoking, and how long you carried the weight. Which medication you took matters less.
Where you fall
| What you see | Likely fit | Options at our office |
|---|---|---|
| Crepey texture, slight laxity, skin springs back when pinched | Non-surgical tightening | Morpheus8 Body, Exilis Ultra, Thermage |
| Moderate laxity with some fat left | Minimally invasive tightening | BodyTite, sometimes combined with VASER |
| Skin folds or hangs when standing, rashes under the fold, upper-arm skin that swings | Surgical removal | Tummy tuck, arm lift, mommy makeover |
Non-surgical tightening: what it can and can’t do
Radiofrequency devices heat the deeper layers of skin to trigger new collagen. Results build over about 3 to 6 months and usually take more than one session. They can firm and smooth skin. They can’t remove a fold. If you can lift a flap of skin off your belly, no device will make it disappear.
BodyTite: the middle option
BodyTite delivers radiofrequency energy under the skin through a thin cannula placed through small incisions. It heats the underside of the skin to tighten it and can remove leftover fat at the same time. Expect several weeks of swelling and compression garments. It covers a gap that surface devices can’t reach but that doesn’t yet call for surgery.
Surgery: when skin needs to come off
- Tummy tuck: Removes excess lower belly skin and can tighten abdominal muscles that separated during weight gain or pregnancy.
- Arm lift: Removes loose skin from the underarm. The trade-off is a scar along the inner arm, which your surgeon will show you before you decide.
These are performed by Dr. Balvant Arora, the practice’s medical director and a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Timing: the stable-weight rule
Plan surgery once your weight has held steady for roughly 3 to 6 months. More weight loss after surgery creates new laxity. If you’re still on a GLP-1 medication, tell your surgeon and the anesthesia team. These drugs slow how fast the stomach empties, and current perioperative guidance covers how to handle them before surgery.
Your face too
Rapid weight loss can hollow the cheeks and temples as well. That’s a separate plan, often filler, Sculptra, or EMFACE. See our post on EMFACE for Ozempic face.

Common questions
Can exercise tighten loose skin?
Strength training improves the shape underneath. It won’t shrink extra skin.
Will insurance cover skin removal?
A cosmetic tummy tuck isn’t covered. Removing a large hanging apron of skin (panniculectomy) is sometimes covered when it causes documented rashes or infections. Your surgeon can tell you whether your case might qualify.
Should I start treatments while I’m still losing weight?
Non-surgical skin quality treatments can start earlier. Surgery should wait until your weight is stable.
BodyTite is performed at The Dermatology, Laser & Vein Center in Cincinnati under the direction of Balvant Arora, MD, MBA, our medical director and a board-certified plastic surgeon. A consultation is the best way to find out what is realistic for your skin.
