BBL (BroadBand Light)

BBL is an advanced form of intense pulsed light that breaks down sun spots, pigmentation, redness, and broken capillaries while gently heating the skin to build collagen. Sessions take 30 to 60 minutes with little to no downtime, and one treatment can address several concerns at once.

BBL explained

What isBBL?

BroadBand Light is what intense pulsed light grew up into. Instead of a single laser wavelength, BBL delivers targeted flashes of light energy that the skin's troublemakers absorb: excess melanin in sun spots and freckles, and the hemoglobin in broken capillaries and rosacea flush. The pigment breaks apart and flakes away over a few days; the redness fades as the vessels close down.

At the same time, that gentle photothermal heat wakes up collagen and elastin production, which is why BBL skin tends to look better months later, not just cleaner. It is highly customizable compared with traditional lasers, so one session can treat spots, redness, and texture together. Our patients often follow the Forever Young BBL protocol, a maintenance rhythm designed to keep skin behaving younger over time.

A session is straightforward: skin is photographed and cleansed, gel is applied, your eyes are shielded, and the device is passed over the area in bright flashes with built-in cooling keeping things comfortable. Expect 30 to 60 minutes, then sunscreen and back to your day.

Who is BBL for?

BBL is for skin that shows its sun history: spots, redness, and tone that makeup keeps having to correct.

Light-based treatments have to match the skin they treat. At your consultation our team assesses your skin tone and your concerns, and tells you whether BBL, a different laser, or a combination will get you the clearest result safely.

You have sun damage or age spots

Freckling, brown spots, and uneven pigment on the face, chest, or hands are BBL's signature targets.

You flush red or have visible vessels

Rosacea-prone redness, broken capillaries, and small facial veins respond to the vascular side of the light.

Your skin tone is on the lighter side

BBL works best on lighter tones, though today's settings let us safely treat many skin types. The consultation determines fit.

You want no real downtime

Spots darken and flake over a few days; redness settles within hours. There is no recovery period to plan around.

You have realistic expectations

Results build over a series of three to five sessions, then stay ahead with occasional maintenance.

Where BBLworks

BBL goes wherever sun and time have left their mark. The face is most common, but the neck, chest, hands, and arms photograph the same damage and respond the same way.

BBL is priced by the areas treated and the number of sessions your plan calls for, so we give a custom estimate at your consultation. Financing options are available.

Skin is cleansed and photographed, gel and eye protection go on, and the device is passed over the area in flashes with built-in cooling. Then sunscreen, and you are done.

Redness typically settles within hours. Treated spots darken for a few days, then flake and fade; that is the treatment working.

Many patients see change after the first session, with results building over a series spaced several weeks apart. Collagen improvements develop over the following months, and periodic maintenance keeps skin ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Is BBL painful?

Most patients feel a mild snap with each flash of light. The device's built-in cooling keeps skin comfortable throughout, and most people do not need numbing, though topical numbing is available if you want it.

How many BBL treatments will I need?

Most plans call for a series of three to five treatments spaced several weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every few months to keep results ahead of new sun exposure.

When will I see results?

Often after the first treatment: spots darken, flake, and fade over the following days. Final results build over months as the series completes and new collagen develops.

Is there any downtime?

Little to none. Redness usually subsides within hours, and treated pigment darkens briefly before peeling away. Most patients go straight back to their day.

Is BBL safe for all skin types?

BBL works best on lighter skin tones, but advances in the technology let us safely treat many skin types with the right settings. A consultation determines whether it is the right light for your skin.

Can BBL help with acne?

Yes. The light reduces acne bacteria and calms inflammation, which is why BBL sometimes joins an acne plan alongside our dedicated acne treatments.

How long do results last?

Months to years, depending on your skin and sun habits. Good skincare, daily sunscreen, and periodic maintenance treatments extend results; many patients book seasonal touch-ups.

What areas can BBL treat?

The face, neck, chest, hands, and arms are most common, but BBL can treat most areas affected by sun damage or discoloration.

How should I prepare for a session?

Avoid sun and tanning before treatment, and pause retinoids for a few days. We confirm the full preparation list when you book.

Can BBL be combined with other treatments?

Yes. BBL stacks well with microneedling, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and injectables like Botox and fillers. Many patients build it into a broader skin plan.

Will the pigmentation come back?

BBL significantly reduces or eliminates the spots it treats, but new sun exposure can create new ones. Daily sunscreen is the difference between a result that lasts and one that needs redoing.

How much does BBL cost?

Cost depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions. We provide a customized estimate at your consultation, and financing is available.
